BGC is the first online course I’ve been able to take to educate myself on the world of design and architecture. I was given the opportunity to work through it with my favorite architect, William Storch and his wife, Carol, at the Chicago Design Center. I’ve learned so much. In this class I learned how to build my own space, how to plan my own design, and how to design my own work.
One of the main reasons I went to BGC 9 was because I wanted to learn more about the history of architecture. I want to understand how it all started, how it has evolved over time and why it changes so much. It’s also important to me that I understand the impact that this type of design can have on the way we live our lives. In this class, I learned not only how to design my own space, but how to design my own work.
BGC 9 is an online class designed to impart a basic understanding of the history and philosophy of architecture. All of the materials are available for purchase at the BGC 9 site, so you can see what all the cool stuff looks like. I was most excited about the interactive timeline. Not only can you use your own space to play with the history and philosophy of architecture, but you can also use this timeline as a guide to designing your own work.
The timeline is a very, very cool way to design a whole history of architecture. The only question is how cool are those interactive timelines? Well, there’s that whole thing with the history of design. It’s cool, sure, but it’s not really that cool. We need the history of architecture to inform our design, and the timeline is a great way to do that.
The timeline is basically a “what if” scenario. It’s the same as a movie plot but with architecture as the story. You start with the timeline as if you were creating a history of architecture, and then you use it to build a beautiful, unique, and functional design for an architecture project.
The whole argument of design is that you should try to create a beautiful and functional design. Its the right thing to do, but without a proper history of design, it’s pretty useless. There are a lot of great architectural histories out there, but they are very far behind our current design practices. And of course, many of the great architectural histories were written by architects themselves, so they have more credibility. Most of the great architectural histories are pretty brief.
You know when you hear about something that is new and revolutionary, and yet you are like, “What the hell?” Architecture is a long-running profession that has a long history and has a lot of great architectural history out there. So I’d like to ask people who are into architecture to go ahead and start digging into it.
People who are into architecture generally have an interest in the history of the profession, but most of them are not particularly interested in architecture. I am in this camp. I am interested in architecture because of the architecture. I can’t stop thinking about how I can use architecture to solve a problem. That’s what architecture is about. I can’t explain it any better than that.
The most powerful tool in a game is the game itself, so I’m not going to go into too much detail about it in this post. I’m just going to show how to use it, but I’ll put it in perspective.
